Man says drunk driving crash is not all that killed his father

Some time ago, a tragic incident occurred on the side of a road in Tennessee. It was a fatal accident that took the life of a 60-year-old man. Recently, that man's son spoke, sharing thoughts on how he feels about the woman facing criminal drunk driving charges in connection with his father's death and the possibility that she may go to prison.

The accident happened when the man had reportedly stopped to assist a motorcyclist who had been in a crash in June 2016. As he was helping the injured motorcyclist, another vehicle ran into him. He did not survive his injuries.

The woman behind the wheel of the car that struck the man was charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol. She was also charged with several counts of vehicular homicide and aggravated vehicular homicide, reckless driving, and leaving the scene of an accident. The 55-year-old woman was recently indicted.

The son of the man who died said his own father struggled with alcohol addiction and had previously served time in prison for a fatal accident he apparently caused while driving drunk. He said he does not want the woman charged in his father's death to go to jail and he would rather charges be dropped. The outcome of the situation can certainly not be presumed, although this woman, like all others charged with drunk driving in Tennessee, is able to retain defense assistance to fight existing charges in court. Many times, a strong and aggressive defense is enough to help a defendant stay out of jail and avoid conviction.
