Anyone charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol in Tennessee is sure to face serious legal challenges in court. One teenager's situation was exacerbated by several additional factors. An alleged drunk driving incident occurred that resulted in her being booked at a county jail.
The 18-year-old was approached by a police officer who responded to a scene where an automobile that was stopped on the road was turned over on its roof. The officer claims the teenager was unsteady on her feet and smelled of alcohol. After she allegedly confirmed that she had been the driver of the car, the officer says she also responded affirmatively that she had consumed alcohol before driving.
After conducting field sobriety tests, the officer arrested the motorist. She was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to exercise appropriate care. The officer said he asked the woman if she were aware that the legal age to consume alcohol in this state is 21. He says she told him she was indeed aware of the law.
At some point, the officer also claims to have learned that her operator's license had been revoked at an earlier time. She is obviously faced with several defense challenges now because of the drunk driving charges, being underage and supposedly driving under a revoked license. Tennessee law allows anyone charged with such crimes to retain immediate assistance from an experienced criminal defense attorney to build as strong a defense as possible before proceeding to court. It is impossible to presume a particular outcome, but chances of obtaining positive results are usually increased when acting under skilled guidance.
