General manager of hockey team facing drunk driving charges

The general manager of Knoxville's professional ice hockey team is facing a DUI charge after a recent incident.

According to the Knox County Sheriff's Office, a disturbance was reported in the early morning hours of May 24 at a Knoxville home. Upon arrival at the residence, officers reportedly found the general manager of the Knoxville Ice Bears in the front yard. His truck had evidently gotten stuck under a tree as he attempted to turn around in the driveway.

The 50-year-old man purportedly had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and was unsteady. Deputies also allege that there was an odor of alcohol on the man's breath. According to reports, the man told police that he had several drinks at a restaurant earlier in the evening. The arrest warrant states that the man supposedly had poor results from a field sobriety test and did not consent to a blood test.

The Ice Bears' general manager has been charged with driving under the influence and violating implied consent. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 27. In addition to his arrest, court records show that a 26-year-old woman was arrested for public intoxication.
