Police officers in Tennessee and elsewhere around the country often rely on tips from citizens to aid them in their work. Information received may lead to further investigation or possible arrests. A tip from a citizen recently led to the arrest of five people in Nashville for a variety of alleged drug charges.
After receiving the information, undercover police officers obtained a search warrant for a Nashville home. During the search of the premises, one kilo of cocaine was discovered in a pickup truck, according to reports. Inside the house, officers apparently found 5.3 grams of cocaine, 14 grams of marijuana, packaging materials and digital scales.
A 50-year-old man and a 40-year-old man were charged with engaging in a drug conspiracy. Detectives also arrested a 45-year-old man, a 41-year-old man and a 22-year-old man. Each man is facing charges of felony cocaine possession, drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The five men purportedly had prior felony convictions. All were currently being held in lieu of bond. Undercover detectives from the West Precinct participated in the investigation.
Facing drug charges in the state of Tennessee is a serious matter. If convicted, the consequences could range from paying a fine to spending a significant amount of time in jail. To avoid or minimize any negative impact on someone's life, an effective defense against the charges should be mounted. An experienced criminal defense attorney can be a valuable ally in presenting the strongest defense possible. A knowledgeable lawyer will work to protect a client's rights and determine if all procedures in the investigation and evidence gathering were properly followed.
