Teenager charged with juvenile crimes escapes from custody

There are times when teenagers may exhibit poor judgment and find themselves in trouble. One Tennessee teen was being detained for alleged juvenile crimes. However, while being held, the teen reportedly escaped from the facility.

A 17-year-old male from the Nashville area had been charged with drug and weapons possession. He was being held in Maury County at the Middle Tennessee Juvenile Detention Center. According to officers from the Columbia Police Department, the teen said that he was sick and needed medical attention. Reportedly, a guard from the facility drove him to the Maury Regional Medical Center emergency department.

Documents show that the teen supposedly escaped from the guard, although he was shackled and handcuffed. He evidently jumped into the window of a car that was waiting nearby. As soon as the teen got in the vehicle, reports indicate that it sped away. Police have stated that they believe the getaway was part of a deliberate escape plan. The guard was not injured in the escape.

Officers stress that the teen should turn himself in as soon as possible. They report that petitions for escape from a penal institution have been filed against the juvenile. In addition, anyone that has helped in the teen's escape will likely face criminal charges as well.
