The majority of arrests that happen in any community are the arrests of local residents. There are times, however, when people find themselves facing legal trouble far from home. That is the case with four men who were traveling through Tennessee this week and are now facing drug charges.
Four men were traveling south and had stopped at a Tennessee hotel to spend the night. That evening, someone apparently reported the smell of marijuana coming from the men's room, so police arrived and entered the men's room. Inside, the officers reportedly found a pound of marijuana.
The Clarksville Police Department teamed up with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office to have a K-9 officer brought to the scene. Outside, the K-9 officer led the police to the suspects' car where an additional 97 pounds of marijuana as well as a large quantity of marijuana oils were reportedly found. According to reports, the street value of the drugs would be around a half million dollars.
The four travelers were arrested, charged with multiple drug charges and had bail set at $200,000 each. Depending on the accusations and the risk of flight, judges often set bail higher for individuals who are from out of town than they would for residents of the area. In fact, being arrested in another city or state than the one in which a person resides can present a number of challenging situations. That is why it makes sense for a traveler in such circumstances to seek the help of a knowledgeable attorney in the town in which he or she is arrested. An experienced attorney knows the ins and outs of the legal system in his or her area and can help safeguard a client's legal rights while pursuing the most favorable result possible.
