11 facing drug charges for alleged marijuana operation

Tennessee law enforcement officials work routinely to curtail the usage, sale and distribution of a variety of illicit drugs. Drug charges in the state can stem from possession to the manufacturing of an illegal substance. Recently 11 people were arrested for their involvement in an alleged distribution operation of marijuana.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation reported that agents had initially obtained information about this large operation in Oct. 2016. During the investigation, officers purportedly discovered roughly 615 pounds of marijuana. In addition, several firearms were found in the searches.

The Assistant Director of TBI's Drug Investigation Division stressed that the organization was focused on all levels of the drug operation. He indicated that the agency was targeting the drug industry throughout the state. Law enforcement officials from Union County, Maynardville and Knoxville joined with the TBI in the investigation. Task forces from the 4th and 8th Judicial Districts also participated in the efforts.

Several of those arrested were charged with conspiracy to commit sale and delivery of marijuana over 300 pounds and the manufacture of marijuana over 20 plants. Other charges included possession of marijuana and possession of stolen property. Bonds for the individuals arrested range from $10,000 to $250,000. One other person is being sought in conjunction with the operation.
